Thanked: 0First major cut -- on my thumb!
Well, I knew it was bound to happen. Was in a little bit of a rush this morning and, when switching the razor from right hand to left hand, the pad of my thumb ended up on the heel of the blade. Gee, I guess it really was sharp! No problem at all in generating a nice little cut, about 1/2" long but not too deep. (I guess I still have some reflexes left!) Didn't drop the razor or bleed on the rug or good towels.
The shave was good, not great. Colleen's soaps really are helping a lot. Nice splash of Clubman afterwards really set me up for the day.
I seem to be getting passible shaves without DE help every now and then. Still have to perfect the ATG/upward strokes on the neck and cheeks. Then we'll be seeing BB smooth shaves here.

Paul,
Three important things I was told when I first took up straight razors:
1. Donate to your local blood bank before beginning
2. Have a recent picture on hand for the plastic surgeon
3. The most dangerous place for a straight razor is anywhere but your face.
My worst cuts were also hand related.

Thanked: 0Wow, I wished I would have read this before I shaved on thursday morning. I might have been more careful. I was running late and was rushing. While cleaning up, I closed the razor on my finger . Instead of making up time, it took me an extra half hour or more to stop the bleeding, clean the blood up off of everthing in the bathroom including spot cleaning the rugs (I couldn't find anything to use as a pressure bandage except for nice hand towels which I knew better than to use, better bleed to death than use the "hand towels").
These things are sharp, I didn't even feel the slice just noticed blood covering my hand.
I have now bought some gauze pads (super absorbant for wound drainage) to use as a pressure bandage.
