Thanked: 5Warning: Pay attention to what you are doing!
I just finished my 21st SR shave, which I must say was my very 1st BBS with my father's 5/8 King Mfg. Co. However, I was switching hands from right to left and must have not been paying attention to what I was doing. Some how I touched the edge with my left thumb pad and it sliced it pretty bad. Not bad enough for stitches, but I thought it would never stop bleeding.
So just as a warning to beginners, please be cautious of what you are doing and pay attention. It is very easy to do serious damage with a SR and it only takes a micro-second.

Thanked: 634I avoid that by not changing hands. I use my right hand on both sides.

I did that once. After that I started laying the razor down on a towel before a hand switch.

My face told me that I had to focus on what the edge was doing at all times. After getting a 2 inch slice twice, I thought that I had learned this lesson. Unfortunately, my fingers on my left hand then taught me that while focusing on the edge, I also had to focus on any moving body parts. The.cuts looked bad, but healed fast leaving no scars.

Thanked: 4I also learned not to cross over hands, if the left hand comes on the right side of the razor, reach over your head. I try to keep my free hand on the other side of my body and put the razor back on the towel to change hands. When you are through with a stroke it is natural to lower the hand with the razor. The other hand better not be in the way.
