    Default Tips on choosing the right vintage SR on ebay

    Hello Everybody;

    I am very curious about the SR that you can find on ebay and I would appreciate any tip you could give me on how to recognize a good SR.

    What I am looking for is basically a vintage and usable SR.

    Thanks for any advise.

    Probably far better off just going to the classifieds here and buying from a member than taking your chances on the Internet.

    No easy answers,web auctions can be a slippery slope,and even the most experienced of us get the occasional lemon. Two sources here for you to peruse .

    A lot depends on what you are trying to achieve, most want the best quality, in the best condition, for the lowest price. Generally you only get one, on Ebay you often get none… but sometimes you get lucky.

    Bottom line, EBay or any on line vendor is a crapshoot, because you have to rely on the vendor’s knowledge, photos and description. There is a huge difference holding the item in your hand and deciding, or buying from a quality vendor that has a reputation, eg. the classifieds.

    Bought a battery for my laptop the other day, guess what… it does not fit…

    eBAY is fine, there are lots of great razors to be had at very reasonable costs, provided you know what to look for and are prepared that the razors you buy, will have to be restored to various degrees of cost. You can get some normally very expensive razors, for a superb price, again, if you know what you're looking for and prepared to invest additional dollars in some work for them.

    If you're simply looking for a nice vintage razor, ready to roll, I agree that the Classifieds here are simply the best place to find them, you know the quality and shave ready status from the ad, and I've never gone wrong with the many razors I've purchased there. Aside from that, the vintage razors in the Classifieds are usually priced extremely reasonably. Hope this helps.

    What you can do (which offers only one minor advantage over the classifieds -- instant variety) is find a seller, who is not auctioning but selling "Buy it Now" and is selling NOS (new old stock) or "mint" razors of known quality brands AND who shows lots of pictures from lots of views. However, you won't be getting a real bargain, and if you're patient something similar will show up in the more trustworthy SRP classifieds.

    Look at the seller's feedback history, look carefully at the photos, and if they are not good, request better photos. Ask questions about anything you're not sure about in terms of condition. Look for excellent + or better condition. Vintage Solingen, Sheffield, USA, Swedish razors , that are not 'hot' items, not well known, can be a bargain.
    Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
