If only I had bought it from SRD. I took the scenic route and thought that the cheaper deal on it elsewhere was better since they advertised "shave ready". Well, needless to say it wasn't, and I had to send it to Lynn anyways. Oh well, I wouldn't of learned half the things I know about this crazy process if I hadn't gone through all that so it all works out in the end.

Yeah, shysters have learned they can charge a premium for the phrase "shave ready" without having any clue what it means.

    Lesson learnd!
My advice, same as Jimmy, send it back to Lynn, and get another shave ready razor from the classifieds. Use this to practice touch ups and go from there.

After reading the reviews on the 10k stone, that could be part of the problem. Some are saying more like a 1k. At $30 I would wonder at the quality.

    Well, there’s your problem…

Unfortunately only a small number of “Stones” work well for razors. While your stone may be 10k grit, it is not just about grit size. It may work ok for a knife, but not for razors. The binder, and how the binder breaks down and what kind of abrasives are in the stone and how hard they are, or even the shape, determine if they will work with a razor edge.

The biggest difference between honing razors and sharpening knives is the quality of the edge and the ability to produce an edge that is chip free, smooth and comfortable shaving. You need a razor quality finish stone, the Naniwa Super Stone is an excellent 12k finish stone.

You may have better luck lapping on 320 grit wet & dry paper or a diamond plate than course lapping stone like you have.

Either send the razor out, or read the first three threads in the Honing Forum and find a local mentor.

And use some tape on the spine, once you master honing then decide if you want to continue to use it, at least you would have a spine to hone on.

The 1& 6k stones should work just fine, once properly lapped, just get a good finisher, do not buy an EBay natural stone of touted high grit, they are not the grit stated, require their own learning curve and you will probably still need a finish stone.

You might get it pro honed, get a CrOx pasted strop and also work on stropping and refreshing your edges for while.

When stropping and refreshing are working well, honing will become easier to evaluate.

How was the razor after the 6k king. If sharp at that point then the 10k might be at fault and from the reviews thats possible. Did you lap the flattening stone they are generally not flat and are fine for knives but not razor flattness. Lapping might smooth the flattener as well making it finer. All the other advice te sending to a pro and practice razors is the way to go. Good luck

If you do decide to hone your self I would suggest to watch those honing videos many more times and I would consider the hones the pros use. I've had the opportunity to watch one of the best hone several razor and the hone he used most was the naniwa. starting with the 1K for the bevel set and then progressed up the ladder in the naniwa hones. The 12K is as stated a good hone to touch up a blade but also to use as a finisher after the honing process. Each person here that hones has there preferred hone and there's many different brands. I have not been honing but a couple of years so my knowledge is not that of the long time members who have honed for many years but I would suggest the 1K and the 3/8K and the 12K naniwa hones because I believe there the easiest to use or at least they are for me. Oh and Welcome to SRP.
