Well you will have to get some water on that soap. If you cannot hone, it can always get sent out. The very best place to learn to hone is at a meet or with a senior member one on one. Hope you can get that ball rolling again.

Welcome back. I do not know for how long have you been gone from the shaving forums, but lots of things have changed in the last 3-4 years. If you want to get up to speed there is plenty to read. Let us know if you have questions, as always members will be happy to answer.

Slowly get back in the groove.... hmmmm. Nope, Gssixgun already has 3 razors from me for repairs and or restoration, I've got myself a Shapton glass hone 1k to round out my collection, a Ralf Aust 6/8 Stainless with Spanish Point and African Blackwood scales on the way and a lust for another strop... though I do have to watch my spending.

    Yeah, I'm back.....<sigh>

    Right!

Like how now you MUST take your blade through a 7 or 8 stone progression or it cant possible be sharp. A 1 or 2 stone honing progression suddenly stopped working a couple of years ago. I think that is the OPs problem with honing. The answer is to buy more stones.

Your soaps and creams: Global warming caused their dryness. But global warming will also be their saviour. Pretty soon the tides will be so high, you can just put your soaps on your front porch to get their moisture back, and you will be able to use them again.

Stropping: You just have the wrong strop for the job. Buy 1 of each: Latigo, cowhide, horween, vegan friendly, etc.. try all of your razors with each one until you find the right combination. I am sure you will find one eventually.

As far as your crustiness, may I suggest a shower? It should get that crust off with just a little scrubbing. You may need GoJo or some other pumice soap, but it'll get you nice and clean.

    Welcome back!

    Welcome back Captain.

It will kind of be like riding a bike, but don't sit on your razor.
