Thanked: 1050th shave and some ramblings of a madman!
Still feel like I know nothing so if you feel that way keep on working. What I've learned so far from this little hobby. Doing drugs would be cheaper lol just kidding. I'm obsessed I look forward to every shave. I spend most of my down time thinking about or looking at razors online. My weekends I now go to antique shops looking for old razors.
I also watch shaving videos, stropping videos, honing, razor making, it's crazy! I own more soap and shaving cream then I'll use in the next 5 years. I give friends razors to try out so I can get them hooked. I'm a razor dealer giving free samples to get my friends addicted. What's wrong with me?
Ok my 50th shave was pretty uneventful I used my Mastro Livi 8/8. I always get a good shave out of it with very little blood flow. It's funny every shave I learn a little better way to get my shave a little bit closer. I'm hoping by my 100th shave to consistently get a BBS shave.
I have found that I'm pretty good with my strop now, your muscle memory will kick in pretty quick. Watch some videos of how good guys do it. I like my razor tight so I can hold onto the end of the scales and strop that way. One video said as you flip your razor start moving it so you don't cut your strop. I have no knicks since I started doing that.
If you're new to this crazy hobby I'd recommend taking your time enjoy the learning curve. My shave time has been cut down from almost an hour to just under 30 min. I kinda miss the extra alone time lol. I'm more aware of my face now then ever before.
Your chin sucks to shave I was scared of cutting myself every time and used my disposable to finish my shaves for the first 30. Now with practice I'm shaving my chin pretty easy. It just takes time be patient it will come before you know it.
Have fun with our little addiction and once again take your time.
Mike

It's very cool that you are 50 shaves into this and are using a Mastro Livi 8/8!!
Like most of us you found out quick that once the bug bites there's no turning back. The rabbit hole is bottomless!
Anyway...Great work and Congratulations!!

You took the words right out of my mouth! You just finished #50 and I just started #1 but many of the observations/obsessions you site, have invaded my brain as well. Your post confirms my thoughts. I'm hooked big time even though I've got a learning curve ahead longer than the trans continental railroad! I can't wait for the next shave and I just finished my first SR trial an hour ago!! Thanks for your post. I can go on knowing that others have experienced the same exciting (excruciating?) path.

Thanked: 28I thought I was the only addict. I have only about 15-20 shaves under my belt. I have bought 6 SRs off the classifieds here, a strop, lets not forget the 2 giant tubes of proraso 500mls each, more cologne and aftershave than a whore house.
My chin shave area is not so good either but getting better. I cant wait shave as well, watch videos etc as well. I would be happy to shave tomorrow but I have razor burn on my chin and now have to figure what I have done wrong. Well I gotta go time to look at some brushes I am bidding on ebay for.
MY fix.

Thanked: 5It seems we are in the same boat. I have just passed my 40th SR shave and am enjoying the learning curve. I now get the occasional BBS with the SR, but normally a DFS. I am still having trouble coordinating my left hand for the horizontal pass on my cheek. Also, having trouble with the left jawline. However, I am getting a little better all the time. Most of the time I can get a DFS with no blood.
I too have the bug of way too much product as I have more creams and soaps than I could use in 2 life times. I now have 8 SRs, 4 of which are new. I have started honing practice on a couple of old razors. I have had to temporarily cut myself off from browzing the internet for new razors and products; at least until I become more proficient with what I have.
It is nice to know I am not the only one with this issue. Keep on enjoying the ride.
