Thanked: 7Anticipation
I'm expecting to receive my new SR in the post over the next couple of days, and in anticipation of the upcoming event of my first straight razor shave I've been preparing my face and using my new Kent BRK8 with my current cartridge razor, and doing a second pass against the grain, which was not possible with canned foam from Clarins, then finishing off with Sloanes aftershave balm.
The net result is a fantastic shave and the smoothest shave yet, together with my face feeling fantastic afterwards.
Im itching to get the SR on my beard, and if the new regime is anything to go by, I'll be enjoying a fantastic shave.
Ill update when I've started to use the SR and just a quick thank you to all the guys on here who are helping with the advice and guidance that makes this possible.

'Wish I knew other members in your area to recommend connecting with. Getting w/ another experienced user can help alot with the learning process.
My excitement had me wanting every shave to be perfect & uber close/smooth. In hindsight, I made it too much work & not enough fun. The skills come whether or not you try hard.
Enjoy the learning. You're about to get the best shaves of your life.

There are 6 people listed for Singapore but none seem to be active.
Use this link to find them. Send a PM and see if you get any replies. Good luck!

Thanked: 3795You are already off to a great start!!!
A good prep is the first start to a better shave; and the nice thing is that even if you decide that you don't want to stick with a straight razor, that improved prep will continue to give you a better shave.
If you have any interest, I suggest that you also try a DE (double edge) razor, also called a safety razor. I can do a straight shave almost as fast as a DE shave, but that is not true for a beginner, who really will take much longer to get even a decent shave. A straight razor has a much slower learning curve but a DE is going to work in the same manner as a cartridge but it actually works better and is much cheaper. I am not trying to talk you out of a straight razor, but a lot of people choose not to bother continuing with them but a DE razor is something almost everyone sticks with after trying it out.

I'll be resident in Singapore next year, although I expect you will have mastered shaving by then!!
Happy to meet you then. I'm learning to hone so won't be able to offer you help with sharpening. It may be worth finding one of the Japanese razor guys to send your razor to. There's good guys in aus and nz as well

Oh, and mustafa in little India has tabac cream for 4.50 sing dollars. If you are after a decent cream treat yourself to tabac. Pick up some food glycerine and add a couple of drops to your tabac lather and away you go.
I'm hoping mustafa continues to stick it when I'm staying there!
