    Thanks for the welcome, everybody!

I am fully committed to taking my time once I shave. In fact, if I do not have 30 minutes or so free to devote to my morning shave, I will just go with the cartridge razor for that morning. This is something I know takes time. I liken learning to use a straight razor to learning to drive a manual transmission. I do not think anybody is going to perfectly work the clutch and shift smoothly their first time pressing that third pedal. But being willing to learn and refine their technique is how we improve.

I realize pressure is important to getting a comfortable shave and is the key to shaving vs scraping. However, as I mentioned, I have the Magic Shavette. That is a very light razor. My mother, who is a retired beautician, held my razor and she said it is definitely lighter than her shaping straight razor. So with such a light shavette, I am wondering if I have to add a tiny amount of pressure to get the best shave? I wonder if the Parkers and the Dovo Shavettes are heftier? When (not if) I upgrade to a true SR such as the aforementioned Dovo Best Quality or a TI, I understand the heft of the razor will provide the required pressure. Also, it seems the Magic has a lot of flex. So while I know I am getting a far better shave than with any cartridge razor, I also realize that this specific shavette may be a limiting factor to being able to get the best shave possible.

But I can say this. After each SR shave, I have been saying WOW after each shave! People are not kidding when they say that by slowing down the shaving process to do a SR shave, we begin to enjoy shaving.

A heavier razor seems to give more control, but I can get great shaves from an extra hollow razor which are very light. My personal preference are full hollow to 1/2 hollow because of the extra weight. I don't have much experience with shavettes, but I do have a Parker that I use on occasion which I do like a lot
