Thanked: 2First razor waiting for me in the mailbox
When I get home I should be getting my razor, shave soap, brush, mug, strop, etc. After I get everything out what should I be looking for to tell me I'm all set? Like was the hone done properly and is it set up right. I am not expecting the most amazing spectacle my eyes have ever beheld, but I also don't know how to tell if it is good to go.

Thanked: 634Was the razor sold as shave ready and where did you purchase it? New or vintage? If it is not shave ready you may need to send it out to be honed.

some company's sell them as shave ready when in fact they aren't or at least need a touch up. unless someone else has had experience with them it's hard to tell except to take it for a test run. i would think if it tree tops arm hairs it might be good to go.(though it's not %100 way to test it.) if you try it out on your face you shouldn't feel any pain or severe tugging. don't strop it before using so you don't risk damaging the edge with inexperience. that way you know it wasn't you who hurt the edge and that it came that way (if it doesn't shave that is)

Good advice from tintin there. The one thing I'll add (other than reading/watching all you can here on SRP) is to go slow, remember that little pressure is best, stretch your skin, and keep your blade angle at more or less 30 degrees (that usually equates to keeping the spine about two spine widths from your skin) Take your time and don't rush anything as things will generally go sideways when that happens.
But most importantly: enjoy!
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Might need honed, most of the sellers like that don't shave with one and there happy to use the words shave ready, as your new , a reputable seller of truly shave ready blades is your best bet, until then you won't know what shave ready is. Good luck and ask for local one on one help, by putting your location in your profile, speeds up the learning curve, and yes what razor did you pick up? Tc

Thanked: 2According to the tracking it was delivered to my mailbox. According to my mailbox that is incorrect.
I figured as far as the honing, the more expensive one my wife was looking at "shave ready" but had like 3 stars. Versus this one same thing with 4.5 stars probably honed properly. That's my logic. Plus lifetime honing, and it is a shaving equipment shop. I assume they use them, may be a big assumption.
It's a Gold Dollar 208.
I am sure whichever neighbor got it will enjoy it.

Thanked: 2Yeah, the company that sold it seems pretty eager to please as well. I am sure it will be made right it is just disappointing because I was so excited to check it out.
