Thread: Is honing really necessary?

As I have mentioned in other threads, I know people whose fathers only had a leather strop and paste... no hone (and they didn't take it to someone either). So do you NEED anything other than a strop... no. But realistically, unless you want to spend many hours of frustrating stropping, get a hone or send it to someone occasionally. If your technique isn't good, you can very easily dull your razor on a strop. Since your last stropping episode apparently dulled it even more, that's even more reason to recommend you send it out for honing.
