Thread: It's falling into place

As I continue to shave and gain experience, I have noticed that things that gave me a bit of trouble seem to be no big deal now. Case in point: My chin. I am now able to get my chin to DFS without using a cartridge razor to clean things up. I also am much better under my nose and in the section right where the upper lips meet the lower lips on both sides of my mouth. I mean, it is just as if I woke up one day and it was as if somebody flipped a switch. I could all of a sudden do it.

For the past two shaves, I have not had to use a cartridge razor to clean up the trouble spots. And that right there was one goal I met. Also, the last shave was cut free...pretty much. Right below my lower lip halfway to the chin bone I got a tiny abrasion. But that area has always been problematic. I've got abrasions there from cartridges many times. But on the rest of the face, no cuts, nicks, weepers, etc.

This, of course, is no means to rest on my laurels. There is ALWAYS room to improve. But I cannot wait until I get a true SR and move from my shavette.

You will probably get much better shaves with a real straight razor. A while back after I had been shaving with a regular straight razor for a couple of years, I tried a shavette, or whatever you call those things that use a replaceable blade, and had cuts all over my face. Gave that thing to my barber and won't use one again. I won't even let my barber use one, I take my own straight razor for her to shave the back of my neck with.

I do the same. Better my razor than a disposable.

Sooner the better

I cannot wait! Im thinking in about 3 weeks, I'll be making the trip to SRD/Imperial Shaving to pick up my first razor, a Ralf Aust 5/8 round point with strop.

I'll probably be able to get my shaves done sooner since I have a wider cutting edge as well as knowing where the edges are when in the corners. Mind you, I am NOT trying to set any speed records! I set aside around 40 minutes for a shave and my usual shave time going nice and leisurely is 30 minutes or so. I do not wish to speed through a shave. But with a wider edge, I'm sure that each pass will take less time.

I'm getting anxious now, that's for sure!

I'm actually in Cuyahoga Falls. I put Akron because it is easier to find on a map.

Congrats!! I used a shavette for YEARS before finding this forum and moving to a straight razor. It gives you time to learn the technique while at the same time eliminating the variables of "is my razor sharp?" I had no problem when I switched to a straight either. In fact I found it easier so it really did help me to start with a shavette. Of course that was just my path. There are many ways to "get there". The important thing is that you are getting success!! Congrats again.

If you've never been there, be prepared!!! Its unbelievable. Dons a great guy and will help as much as he can, if hes not too busy. I'll be heading there in the next day or so for a rock or two

Correction..past FIVE shaves. It has been two weeks since a cartridge touched my face!
