Thanked: 0Well I had my first shave.
What an experience! It was possibly the most stressful thing I have done in awhile.
Putting something that sharp on my face was interesting.
So I managed to NOT cut myself which I thought was good.
I'm having an issue with doing my neck and perhaps someone can comment.
The hair on my neck grows in 3 different directions. I'm not sure if this is a common problem but I would think I'm not the only one.
Any tips on how to deal with that?
Cheers!
Steve

Stay with the WTG stroke for the first 10 or 20 shaves, then move to the XTG stroke on your cheek area for another 10 or so, then move to ATG, on the neck area, takes time, my neck area has multiple direction whisker growth as well, and I angle up my ATG strokes now - I have to use an almost scything stroke on the neck, which comes with experience and learning how to shave your beard pattern.
Another month or two, and you'll be shaving like this old forum member (this is the video that got me into straight shaving!):

Thanked: 1I'm about a month and a half into straights after a couple years with DEs. My growth pattern is crazy on my neck as well, and I had to stay WTG with DEs. I started just as JOB15 recommended, and now I go N to S, then S to N, and get a great shave without irritation. Just stick with it and you'll be glad you did.
