I just got done with my first shave! Not the most comfortable, but I imagine poor technique is to blame. There was some pulling, but the razor passed HHT...

    Any thoughts on this?

    Update from earlier.
When I touched up the shave with my DE, I purposely left an area on my left cheek untouched-up. I did 10 laps on the linen side and 20 on the leather. Now it appears as if the edge has a mirror finish, whereas before the first shave I could not see the edge. I lathered that one area on my cheek and put the blade flat against my skin. Then I slowly rotated the blade a few degrees and pulled the razor straight down.

All I can say is that I didn't even feel the edge on my skin! It took the hair off extremely clean, and that area is now almost BBS! I will continue to work on technique so I can achieve this result everywhere.

Answered your own question. Keep at it and you'll be having extremely good shaves all over soon. Remember to figure out direction your hair grows too, makes a huge difference.

Good form! There is no shame in touching up with a familiar razor. Your new gear that uses new skills will take time.

Here is a crappy phone picture of it. It is the 5/8 round point.

Shave number 2 is down. I used TOBS Sandalwood cream, whipped up to a yogurt texture. At first I was only going to do the same shave as last night's, but after I got done with my first WTG pass on my cheeks and sideburns, I wanted to do more. So, I moved onto my jawline and neck. The chin and mustache area I left for the DE.

I then re-lathered and did one XTG pass everywhere but on my chin and mustache.

Wow, great shave. From the time that I started stropping before the shave to when I was packing the razor away took about 30 minutes, but it was 30 minutes well spent. I truly enjoyed this shave and tried my best to keep the right angle. I did have one weeper on my jawline after the second pass, but it stopped with a splash of cold water.

Another thing that surprised me about tonight's shave was the sound that the razor made while cutting hairs. It was absolutely intoxicating.
