Thanked: 346In the excitement prior to landfall - hurricanes being a particularly slow-moving natural disaster - I hadn't shaved in a couple of days so I was pretty scruffy. You know those sliding collapsible stocks they user on the old CAR-15's? Well, I had one on my SP1, and they're *really* prone to catching whiskers at the joint and yanking them out, and I figured I wouldn't be wanting the distraction. It turns out it didn't matter anyway, when the looters came around I had the HK91 on me not the AR.
The hurricane came to me, I didn't go to it...

Thanked: 481Lived on the coast for years. Having ridden out several hurricanes myself - nothing. If you live in an area with any sort of population density you won't be evacuating. Unless you want to ride out a hurricane inside your car. The highway will be packed, and you'll be stuck.
You won't be going anywhere or doing anything - any store with common sense will be closed down. The rest will be inaccessible due to flooded streets and downed flora. If it's a particularly large one, you'll have a few day's down time. Phone and power out. No internet. Still nowhere to go due to debris in the road. Safe to expect to be housebound for 3 full days minimum (day 3 you can start yard cleanup.)
You would, out of sheer boredom if nothing else.
Never really seen any looters in our area. Would almost be a welcome bit of excitement to the usual mundane life interruption that is a hurricane. Usually my biggest concerns are the rather tall pine trees adjacent to the house. It's a little scary looking out the window and seeing a 50 ft tree bending like a twig in the wind. To solve this I stopped looking out the window at the tree. Out of sight, out of mind.
