Thanked: 0Pretty nasty shave cut
I have been using a safety razor for about a year, and about a week ago I cut my chin. It didn't seem to bad at first, I used a styptic pen and closed the cut. Surprisingly it scabbed. I didn't notice this till the next day. Since then when shaving my chin. I always cut myself on that same spot. How do I get that cut to stay closed? Now admittedly each time it is cut less and less so it is healing, but is there a quicker way?

Don't shave over it. If your life requires you to be clean shaven, keep it un-shaved and slap a bandaid over it. Apply Bacitracin ointment to it, and it will heal twice as fast.

Thanked: 12Most cuts are undercut in the direction that the blade was moving. If you must shave over that area, make a light pass opposite the direction that the blade was going when the cut was made. You can also go perpendicular to the original cut if you want. Just avoid passing over it in the original direction until it is healed.

+1 on not shaving over it, you will open it back up and cause a scar!

Thanked: 0I have a feeling it will scar. I will do what Richard said from now on. Too bad I didn't ask what to do sooner. Thanks for the help now though.

Recommend you don't go against the grain in that spot. Take about a 30 degree different direction as you cross it. Watch blade angle and pressure very carefully. Don't shave that spot first; don't shave it last. Stiff muscles and tired muscles quiver sometimes. It won't leave a scar if you peeled back a flap just a little. You have to make a pretty good slice (which we usually don't do because it starts hurting before you get too deep) in order to scar. Skin type may make a difference. My face would be a road map of scars if every stripe remained visible. Too bad, too. I heard chicks dig scars.

Thanked: 250I can tell you for a fact that women do like scars. I have a dandy from a job related accident. It goes from below my right eye down the side of my cheek a good two inches, Clint Eastwood/Josie Wales style. It wasn't fun getting the infernal thing but it sure goes good with my Stetson.
