Are you going to get some scrap to replace the leather on the strop you have? That'd be neat if possible. I've seen a few home-made strop tutorials on here that should guide you pretty well, it might depend on the leather that you use.

You should be able to replace the leather on the strop you have. Good smooth blemish free veg tanned leather. Can possibly buy a belt blank to make it easier. You will need unpasted leather for daily use. You could leave one side unpasted and paste the other. I do use linen but it isn't truly necessary
