Thanked: 3First full shave
Just wanted to let y'all know that after reading and watching videos on here I have progressed to a full face shave. In fact I shaved my beard off using a straight razor that I purchased from the classifieds here. It felt great and fairly natural except for the nose area and I only shaved with the grain this time.
I have found a favorite soap so far and that's the razorock mudder focker. I will be purchasing a round point razor next week. No problems with my square point but it did make me a little nervous here and there.
Should I go with a Dovo or Boker. It will be a cheaper razor as I am just getting into straight razors but I do want to purchase a professionally honed one. I have been looking at them on vintage blades. Any issues with that company?
Thanks
Trey

Thanked: 250Good for you on your first full shave. I bought my new razor from SRD...........believe me it was a tough choice between Boker, Dovo and Ralf Aust. The Boker Silver Steel won out and I'm a happy camper.

Thanked: 250Yep, it came shave ready from Lynn with a certificate for its first honing free. All I did was strop it. Just go to Straight Razor Designs.

Don't forget about the Ralf Aust razors at SRD. They are really good razors.

Thanked: 3Update. Full shave number two. Went good. Felt better this time. Finished product felt better too. One shave with the grain and one against. Two cuts but they were my fault. I'm using a razor with a point and it got me in front of the ear but not bad. Then my nose took a nick. I stretched my neck but didn't have to stretch the skin very much to get a good pass.
It felt more natural this time. All I have done up until now is cheeks so these two shaves are a win in my book. If each one gets better it won't be very long before I will have that baby butt face. Ha.
Anyway thanks for the support and all of the help. I am enjoying it and that's what it's all about.

Thanked: 250You're well on the way. Just keep at it and don't get cocky. Always respect your straight edge.
I guess what's hard for us life long straight shaving guys is trying to comprehend the trials you new guys are going through. I had the advantage of starting with straights at puberty. Mother nature slowed things down for me so in the beginning I only had to shave my cheeks and upper lip. Over the years as my beard got fuller I had to add different angles and strokes so my brain was programmed incrementally. By the time I was around 20 I was doing full three pass shaves using both hands. I was also honing and stropping my own razors.Last edited by Benz; 02-13-2016 at 02:44 AM.

Your shaves will get better and better as time goes on! Don't get ahead of yourself and always take your time or the razor will bite you
SRD is a good place to get a razor, but I would also keep your eye on the classified section here for a good second razor.
