    Default Shave Ready or not

i recently purchased a Boker Edelweeise 5/8 Full Hollow Razor. Trying this for first time
after using the Dovo Shavette for a while and was disappointed. i was told this razor came shave ready, however i beginning to believe this is not the case. I went and
purchased another razor this time a Dovo 5/8 in Shave Ready razor from another company, to compare. I have stropped the Boker razor until arm numb and still
the Dovo Shavette seems to out perform. can the Boker razor get that kind of sharpness. Maybe i needed to send the Boker out to be professionally Honed.
I have never honed a razor before. Your advise would be appreciated.
    thank you

Who said it was shave ready? That may answer your question, plus yes it will shave as good as the shavette, but you will have to learn how to shave. Plus stropping takes time to learn also. Post some close up pics and give us info on where you got them. Saying its shave ready is a Ebay sellers automatic response even though they mostly only sell not use straight razors.
Read up In the library for new guys, if done first it would have given you some advise on how to buy the right razor properly honed, most guys seem to not do this and make these type of buys before reading. The razor you mention is a decent razor but it will probably need honing, and if it was shave ready you could gave damaged it yourself with stropping. No need to hone yet your not ready, tc

Basic rule of thumb is if it is from factory it isn't shave ready even if they say so. If your razor was in a sealed box and not hand honed it won't be shave ready. Tc has given great advice so go check out the library and beginners section.

New Bokers and new Dovos are not shave ready from the factory even though they claim to be. Send it out to be professionally honed. There are honers listed in the classified section.

And properly sharpened a straight will cut just as well as a shavette - just use a lower angle to the face with the straight than you do with the shavette.
