Default Deep cleaning brushes (mostly boar)

I have some semogue brushes I would like to deep clean. I will be soaking them in water with dish detergent for 10 min and water with 1:1 white vinegar for 10 min. I will try not to get the handles wet. My question is, because boar hair absorbs water, should I soak the boar brushes and make sure the hairs are filled with water before soaking them in soapy water? Is it bad for the boar hair to absorb soap water? Also, will vinegar damage my wooden handle if it touches them? Thank you.

That works, soak up to the handle. Then shampoo with a good shampoo. White vinegar works, just rinse and dry well.

I give my favorites a vinegar soak, a couple time a year and never had a problem. Some soaps leave more residue than others.

If I recall correctly, pixelfixed pointed out that unlike badger hair, which absorbs water, boar are bristles, not hair, and do not absorb water, so I don't believe you will damage the boar brush at all, I've cleaned both badger and boar the way you describe.

I,m pretty sure soap won't hurt them, that's what you use every day you shave with them,, but I think sone guys even use borax. The only cleaning mine get is new , then I shampoo a couple times then make lather with a cheap soap til the smell us gone then I glen them everyday I lather up. Tc

Hydrogen peroxide will brighten up the boar hair as well as sanitize it.
Start at 50/50 mix of the 3% stuff with water and giver a soak after washing it up.
