    Default I lost it.

This last week and a half has been great for me! My shaves have been great,my stroping was wonderful; I even got a couple of razors shave ready with a little barber'shone I picked up from Ebay, etc., etc. I AM KING OF THE WORLD!

Not to compare shaving with my golf game, but sometimes on the golf course I've really got it.- so good I'm ready to Monday qualify for the PGA Tour. And sure enough, the next time out, IT"S GONE! Well, my high about shaving has left. As I'm stoping, the up stroke is good, nice and flat, but the down stroke was gone! The blade was lifting off the leather. I knew it was bad, and it proved itself when I started the shave. I absolutely lost the edge by my poor stroping techniques. I think I lost the stroke(just like golf). I believe I was trying to be too deliberate and slow, rather than to just stroke it.

I did pull it out. I grabbed another razor and tried again, to get back that rythum with the strop. The blade was much sharper this time and I finished the shave okay. It was not as sharp as I wanted, I had to work too hard to get everything off. Yea, I'm kinda depressed This was one step forward and two back.

Does anything like this ever happen to you?

Yes, I find its like anything else. Sometimes things go great and sometimes they go bad with extremes at either end. I just try to keep improving the average. Keep at it!

I now have three razors in my rotation. I'd been doing great with the first (full hollow) razor, but started cutting myself and getting lousy shaves when I got my 1/4 hollow Henckels. I persisted for a week or so, then moved on to my newest razor, a DD Special No 1, which came in superb shaving condition from Namdnas. I've been getting fantastic, close, comfortable shaves every day since.

My point?: If your routine isn't working, change it.

We all get these problems at one time or another. Like already stated, improving the average is nothing to worry about. Your technique and your shaving will both get better as time passes.

Yep, I start stropping and going at a quick pace and notice that I ain't doing anything because the blade is lifting up. I slow down again and take baby steps again. Soon my technique improves and I can go into that "zen" state again as I strop.

I had a colleague of mine describe exactly like that the other day. You just have to be in the moment and let something "else" take over your hands for you.
