Thanked: 0First straight shave!
After watching the many informative videos on line it was time to get the 1st shave on.Lot of pre shave prep whilst looking out of the corner of my eye at the chosen weapon, Dovo best quality with a little nervousness .As the blade approached my right sideburn I'm sure I noticed a little tremble!Slowly I proceeded to shave the side to the jaw line as previously recommended ,so far so good, then the cheek, all ok, finished 1st pass with the DE. 2nd pass, same as the 1st but this time left side using left hand as recommended ,all ok but felt a little awkward to say the least, finished off with the DE.One thing I struggled with was trying to look over the 1st &2nd fingers as I brought the razor down from the side burn,(tips welcomed). All in all I felt quite pleased I'd achieved some form of straight razor shave.I am going to stay with this routine for a while yet until I get confident enough to try a full shave, mind it could be a while!

Congratulations. That Dovo is a fine starter razor. It is the one I started with and remains a favorite. I too have some trouble with sight lines on certain parts of my face. Now I pretty much don't worry about it just go by feel in those blind spots.

The first shave is always a challenge. Keep your progress to your confidence level. Cockiness does not pay off with razor sharp edges.
I still have some issues with sight lines 3 years in. You do get more comfortable and stretch skin better or hold the razor at a slightly different angle to see what is going on. Switching hands helps a lot and you will get better with the off hand. Most of my nicks were with my dominant more cocky hand.

Congrats on your first shave, it only gets better. I can see on my right side, side burn line but the left is pretty much totally by feel. Keep it up and soon you will be able to do a complete shave but only increase areas when you feel you really are ready to.

Thanked: 3795I was never so very aware of the blood pulsing in my neck as I was the first time I put a blade next to it!
Congrats on surviving your first shave!

Congratulations on your first successful shave.
Take your time and stay in your comfort zone. Practice, watch videos, ask questions and in no time you'll be shaving like an "old pro."
Good luck on your shaving journey!

Thanked: 10Congratulations Billy. I've only been shaving with a straight for about a week, so I'm right there with ya. I went a little farther than I was comfortable with on shave #3 and paid for it with a painfully razorburned neck. I've been loving it aside from that, so here's hoping for a pleasant journey for both of us
