I had an older barber tell me that before he could graduate barber school that they had to shave a balloon. Sounded strange at the time but if you start with a very dull blade and practice technique then go with the sharp blade you could get in some good practice. As far as honing i learned a great deal watching the videos on you tube. Start with very cheap razors and practice. That's how a lot of us learned. Take your time and enjoy.

Thanks...... Much appreciated currently learning with a balloon. Now I need to move on and learn how to consider different skin types, blemishes, moles etc. If you know what I mean?

of course is absolutely better...but for start is a good idea.

Another solution is "organize an aperitif" . Write on forum...and ask if someone is available to meet and drink something and teach something.
In my area (and in other cities of Italy) often I and other member of italian forum organize aperitif.
It's a good idea to meet members of forum, talk about our passion, news and it's a great opportunity for beginners to ask ,learn and try tecniques and products
