Thanked: 0Purchasing chromium oxide crayon in Canada
This message is for anyone who is aware of any place to purchase a chromium oxide crayon. When purchasing it from the USA the shipping rates are crazy expensive. Are there any Canadian venders selling this product?

Thanked: 351I think your best bet is going to be Whipped Dog in the USA. 1 tablespoons worth of dry powder shipped to Canada is $4.
Classic Edge Shaving in Canada has some semi-paste in stock, but it's $22.99 + shipping. Lee Valley carries a stick, but it's not pure and I would not recommend it.
I use the dry powder from Hand American (I got a jar years ago) and a little goes a long way. If I were to order today, I'd just get a tablespoon of powder from Whipped Dog and mix it with some neatsfoot oil, baby oil or Vaseline if you want it in paste, or just rub some dry powder into a leather paddle strop, which is what I do.
Shaving Style has the Herold/Dovo paste sticks, but while I have a set, I have not used them them, so I cannot comment on how well or even IF they work, but I think others here have used them and have given good reports.
Perhaps you can get it as a pigment powder from a local art/hobby supply store, it's the same stuff....
The crayon style is something you would want to purchase from a reputable straight razor retailer as many of the woodworking/carving knife green sticks are blends of different abrasive materials and can have some rather coarse grit in them.
