Thanked: 18Questions
1. When looking under 10x mag I can see a few scattered scratches ( from the cloth strop, stopped using until I treat it). They don't go out on leather or news paper but shave is ok. Re-polish?
2. Razor pops arm hair after stropping, however I need to do several wtg and atg passes to get a smooth shave. Been keeping the angle very shallow but six passes sounds wrong to me.
3. The day of the shave skin looks fine, but next day it's very red/bumpy, but not itchy or painful. What should I do. Just reduce the passes and go out half shaven?

For 1. If it is purely cosmetic no. But 2 & 3 sound like it needs touched up on a hone.

I agree with Datsots, but #2 question can be also caused by a wrong angle. I have a Hellberg frameback that I love, but I always have to remember the angle it likes is not so shallow as the angle my 6/8 red devil likes. #3: are you sure it's not a particular aftershave or another product blessing you with a rash? Also, if you have to make 6 passes on a same area, it's quite probable you removed more than reasonable outer dead layers of skin, than causing the red/bumpy apperance.

Every time you make a pass with the razor you remove a little bit of skin. The more passes you make, the more skin you remove. For me, I can make three passes with no problem, the 4th pass if it is very, very light will usually not cause problems, but a 5th pass no matter how light will cause me to have a rash.
Has the razor been professionally honed? If not, then I'd send it out to be honed.
If it is technique, well that you just have to correct with practice. Do a three pass shave with the straight and then clean up with whatever you used to shave with. As your technique improves you won't have to do as much clean up.
You could also put your location into your profile and see if someone local to you can check your razor. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

He said six passes and your technique are causing the irratation, your edge is either lacking and most probably your inexperience combined for a bad shave, it takes time to actually learn how to do this and if your new and honing your own blades it is tough. Tc

Learning to shave and hone at the same time don't mix. You need to learn proper shaving and stropping technique before you even consider learning to hone...........

Was the blade originally pro honed. If not start there. The linen strop should in no way cause scratches if it is its contaminated and you will need to clean and test it before using again. You are doing way too many passes especially as so new so poor technique means you are not getting a close shave and getting irritation. You should be able to get a pretty good shave wtg and until you can its probably better not to use any other passes and just clean up using your old shaving method till your technique gets better.
