A great experience today
So I woke up and started the routine with my TOBS, which has been wonderful and I highly recommend the Eton College line ( this also includes the previous shave oil), stroping as usual, before and after, and warming up the brush with hot water. However I changed one thing today and it was like an epiphany. Instead of using hot water I used cold water throughout the process. I have read from may of you that you use this process and for me it has made the world of difference. Less irritation, closer shave and no bumps. Today was by and far the best experience I have had with a SR. So maybe this will help others, and if you want to try something different, go cold, it works for me. Thanks to all the folks who help us newbies out with there awsome suggestions!!!

I tried cold for a while when I preparing to go to prison. I had heard the horror stories of no hot water in prison and wanted to see how it worked out. It worked out great. It might have even gotten me a little closer. But it was never as "comfortable" for me. So I ultimately went back to warm.
Moreover, the warm seemingly makes my aftershave a little easier to apply... call me silly for saying as much. At least call me silly for saying I was prepping for prison lol. I never did that - but I do know that though cold was great, I prefer warm.David

We were cold shaving in Afghanistan. It's not for everyone. But I seem to tolerate it so....

Thanked: 39N
I've done both, too me the hot water does best, or at least very warm. Each to his own I guess. I have my first "BENGALL" on the way, E-Bay win. I have won several nice razors that honed up nice on there recently, including my second Landers, Frarey, and Clark razor. Oh yea, just watched one of the most classic lines in Movie history it goes like this "Well, being as how this is a .44 Magnum the most powerfull handgun in the world, you have to ask yourself, do you feel lucky?".

Kinda funny, but I go back & forth. Actually I prefer luke-cool...not freezing cold, but not hot or even warm. I find I get less irritation using cold water, and always rinse ice-cold water post-shave. It really tightens the pores.
