Thanked: 31st Cut Throat Razor Shave ... Post your experience here
Well today the 6th of July 2016 I received my first shave ready cut throat in the post ( dovo best quality razor ) I also got a strop, shaving soap and an alum block. I opened the packaging and after that went for a shower and a shave. I conditioned my beard which had about 3 weeks growth . Lathered straight on to my face and went for it. I had a shave WTG I am so happy with the results I wouldn't say it's BBS but it is the closest shave I have done myself in 7 years ... I have super sensitive skin and it has absolutely no irritation. I did nick my chin and neck but my syptic pencil sorted that in seconds. Over all I am 100% addicted to cut throat shaving it is such an art. I can tell there is much more to learn and I think this is the place to do it. Thanks to the forum for giving me all the info to start in this marvellous art.

Thanked: 5Congratulations on your great start.
I too had my first straight razor shave this morning 7/6 with similar results. Slow and easy, 2- pass WTG for a DFS with minimal blood loss, which was my goal. My plan is to stick to WTG for the next few weeks until I get more comfortable handling the razor, and get the blade angle dialed in.
Not the best shave ever given it was my first shot at it. But it is right up there with best shave experiences.

Congrats on your first shave being in the books!
My first couple of straight shaves left me a face feeling like it was on fire.

Congratulations!
I started with a Dovo Best Quality and Strop Set myself.
I discovered that I have a very light touch (which came as a big surprise to me), but I would rather make multiple passes with a light touch than be heavy handed and draw blood any day!
As you can see, I have a goatee.
I previously used my old safety razor.
I always found that, over time, my sideburns kept creeping down the sides of my cheeks and my beard kept creeping further out onto my face.
With a straight edge, I can keep a sharp edge on both my sideburns and my goatee.Last edited by howdydave; 07-07-2016 at 12:55 AM.

Congratulations! It is so easy to forget the horrible shaves we had with cartridge razors as we are chasing a BBS but even when I miss the mark of BBS I have to remember that the results are still way above my old cartridge results. Your post was a good reminder of this. Once again, congratulations!
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Congratulations! I am about 50 shaves in and it keeps getting better. At least it has for me. I had some great shaves right at the beginning too. Then I had some that were not so good - probably because I said to myself, "I've got this. It's easy." What I've learned, is that repetition makes for consistency, and consistency makes for great shaves. Congratulations again, and enjoy the ride.
