Thanked: 0Where to get Straight Razor Honed?
Hi, I don't yet have a straight razor, but I'm looking into it. I see that everyone recommends getting a new straight razor honed since the factory edge is not ideal. But where can i get it honed at? I'd prefer to not spend more money to ship a new razor out and spend more time waiting to use it. And I don't have the cash to buy all the honing supplies yet. So do most local town barbers do this service? or is there any type of listing to find local companies that do it? FWIW I'm around the Detroit area.
Thanks

As already stated someone from the classifieds . If you update your info. there might be someone close to you that hones . you never can tell. All so depending on where you buy your razor it may come shave ready. I know of one vender that there razors are shave ready and comes with a free honing certificate. Might want to ck in to the venders and the razors in the classifieds from members may come shave ready. Just a thought.

+1 on the classifieds.
I've found the services there to be nothing short of excellent. If you're patient enough, you might also stumble onto a shave ready razor that sells for less than the price of honing and shipping.

If your looking for new you won't do better than a 5/8 Ralph Aust or Dovo Best from Straightrazordesigns. Get a strop with it and save. You do NEED a strop. You don't need honing stones ever if you don't want. You can also keep an edge very well maintained with just one finishing stone.

Maggard Razors in Adrian, MI. offers honing services. Don't know if that is close enough to you in Detroit or not.

Yep look in the classifieds and start by adding your location in your profile instead of playing secret agent, someone may be right down the street from you, our good friend Jonathan(ultrasound) is up that way, but any vendor who advertises here can help you. They are as close to you as the mailbox.
Also if you by from SRD it will be shave ready, if you buy from our classifieds if said so it will be shave ready, stay away from the bay for your first purchase go straight to a good buy. Your shaving experience will be much better. And look up and go to any meet you can make, or hook up with a member to mentor you. If looking for a new razor as said buy from one of the recommended vendors or site sponsors. Will come shave ready and will cost the same. Don't buy a crappie strop it's almost as important as the razor. Kits are great as you can get a quality razor and strop for less. If you have questions ask its better than asking after bad decisions and we are always happy to help. Good luck

I've been getting my razors honed by Cudarunner from this website for years now.
