Thanked: 0Newbie Quality Question
Hello all,
I've been thinking about getting into straight razor shaving for quite some time. I've done quite a bit of reading and watched youtube videos, but one question I haven't found answered is regarding blade quality of products made by the same manufacturer.
As someone just looking to begin, I find the wet shaving kits at Straight Razor Designs quite attractive. Of course, not having shaved with a straight razor before, I'd like to keep my entry cost low while not sacraficing the quality of the razor too much.
That said, are there any quality differences(when it comes to the blade) between products like the Dovo Best Quality 5/8 and the Dovo Forestal 5/8? Is the price difference due to the difference in scales and designs on the razor, or is it in the quality of the blade as well?
Thanks in advance for all of your help in setting me straight!

Thanked: 3228Welcome to the forum
The quality of different razors within a makers line is not indicated by the cost. The more costly ones have fancier scales, more bling on the blade and larger sizes cost more. The basic quality is the same through the line.

The best quality and forestal shave the same. They may even have the same blade blank in them. The price difference is in the scales and blade etching. The best quality has plastic scales, the forestal has cocobolo scales, larger brass pins, and blade etching.
If you are choosing one of those two to begin with, I'd go with the best quality because it is cheaper.
