Thanks so much for the advice. I usually only shave every other day so I let my skin rest. I will try holding the blade a little shallower next time and see what happens.

Welcome aboard.
Other factors besides the blade and edge that come into play. Prep and soap can make a big difference. At least for me they do. I usually shave after a nice hot shower. If I just wet my face and shave without taking a shower first the amount of resistance the hair puts up increases noticeably.
Also good soaps help with glide and protection for your Shave. If you check out Obie's soap and cream list and pick a tier one or even tier 2 so you'll probably see a difference in the aftershave feeling. Just some thoughts and my two cent. Ken

Obies list is a great place to start finding the quality soaps to try out.
But I have found that even some of the tier 1 soaps just don't do it for me.
Skin type and the toughness of your whiskers plays a major part as wellLook sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

I picked my first soap from his tier 2 list TOBS sandalwood cream, definitely need to work on my lathering skills but i think that my biggest issue I am having right now is maintaining the proper angle. My third shave was last night and I could really tell when I had the angle right because it would just glide through the whiskers. I usually shave after the shower and microwave a wet towel to get it super hot all while my brush is soaking in hot water. I then wrap that scalding sucker around my face and hold it there rubbing into my whiskers. I have found that this method really softens my coarse beard. Then after that I lather up good and proceed to strop my razor, slowly and methodically of course. Microwave another towel and wipe the lather off rubbing into the whiskers again. If I am missing something let me know. I really am doing a thorough pre shave as gssixgun said in one of his videos, "in the beginning you want to remove as many variables as possible". Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also I went into this with realistic expectations. I knew I wasn't going to be getting BBS right away, I did a lot of advanced research before purchasing and knew it was going to take time to get even an acceptable shave yet alone BBS.
