Thanked: 0New Here, Trying to Get Info On Razor
Hello everyone, new to the forums. I'm sort of new to straight razors, I used a shavette before I grew out a beard. Today I decided to pick up a straight razor to line things up and because I've been wanting an actual straight razor haha. So far, I've honed it to almost shave ready, I'm still working out some micro chips in the edge.
Anyways, I've been trying to do some research on the razor I got but can't seem to find anything on it other than a timeline for Case. I was wondering if anyone could provide any info on my razor. I'm curious to see if I got a good deal ($25) or if its worth more maybe. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum I have no new info for you about the razor you may want to look in the library there is tons of great info in there. Appraisals on razors is in the rules as something we do not do. Best bet for finding approximate value is ebay ended auctions, and secondly what someone is willing to pay is subjective. I may like something more then the next guy so I will pay beyond what he will. I will say that for what you paid it looks to me like it will be a great razor to start with. I would also maybe recommend sending it to a pro to get honed this way you have some thing to compare a shave ready edge to. Comparing a straight to a shavette is like apples and oranges. I wish you the best of luck and you will surely hear more about what you have as far as your razor. Always feel free to ask any questios, lots of great knowledgeable guys on here. P.S. you may also want to see if there is a mentor in your area to help get you along in the beginning.

Thanked: 3215So, you have a Standard Knife Company, Case brothers razor manufactured between 1901 and 03, when brothers Elliot and Dean Case left the Case brand started their own brand, quickly went out of business after the death of Elliot Case.
There is much history written on the Case family.
While the Case brand is collectable, the razors that collectors are willing to pay high dollars for, are pristine or very old razors. Condition is everything, and your razor looks to have been well used, with excessive wear on the spine and chips on the celluloid scales.
What you paid, is what I would expect to pay for a razor in that condition and would probably make a good shaver.
An advanced search of EBay’s sold auctions, is a good source of current estimated value of your razor. I was surprised at several recent EBay auctions of a collection pristine early 1900 Case knives, that sold for much less that I would have though, given their condition. Which demonstrates that the market is always in a state of flux.
What stones are you using to hone the razor and do you have experience honing razors?
Whatever you do, use tape on the spine to prevent anymore spine wear.
