Thanked: 0Help! Gift Ideas!!
So, my boyfriend loves his straight razor and I've been agonizing over what to get him. I would like to get him a new one because his seems a bit worn and frankly grungy? Not sure if that is the right word. But I don't know the first thing about straight razors and I was just wondering if anyone could help me with ideas as to what I should be looking at. Something nice, and use able for a daily razor. He has a pretty large beard and he uses his straight razor to keep the edges cleaned up. He even uses it when he decides to shave it all off and start over. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Thanked: 4826Well a geographical clue to what shops are close to you would be good. I will tell you about the shops near me that sell shave ready razors and that is Classic Edge and Gentlemen's Blade. If you are looking for accessories, of which there is an endless supply or soap and brushes and aftershave/ colognes. There are a number of places that I have bought from; Classic Edge, Fendrihan, Mens Essential, Italian Barber. They all have a pretty great selection. Also on the razor front, a little information about his experience shaving. Has he been shaving long? If so he is likely going to be able to use most any size blade that you think is cool and comes from a reputable seller. You may want to figure out what he has and get him something in a different grind. Variety is the spice of life they say. http://straightrazorpalace.com/srpwi...straight_razor This page has example of grinds and blade styles. I am sure that others will be along with a list of their favorite shops in their regions.

A grungy razor? Argh!
In the US my go to vendor would be Straight Razor Designs. You could also peruse the razors in the Buy/Sell/Trade section here at SRP.

I have to agree ^^^ here. There are many great razors at real good prices on the site in the Buy/Sell/Trade area. Link is at the top of every page.

If you want to go with used, but 99% likely to be in great condition and ready to go out of the box, then the classifieds on this site are the way to go.
If you want to go with new in the US, then Straight Razor Designs is the place to go.
If you want to go with new in Canada, then I defer to RezDog above.
I don't know how much you want to spend, but most decent new straight razors start around $100 (USD) and go up from there.
That is a warning to basically stay away from the $15 dollar things "advertised as razors" on amazon and ebay. You don't want to buy one of those. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Thanked: 0We live in Ohio, US, money isn't really a big issue, probably don't want to go over 200$, but if it is a quality razor I'm willing. I literally know nothing about razors as far as strope and whatever else. I want to get him something he'll love, but also use.

Thanked: 4942If you live anywhere near Medina, OH stop by the SRD store where you can see and feel the razors and strops and maybe that will help you make your decisions regardless of where you purchase them from.

Thanked: 4826Shopping in store would be pretty nice, it comes with a guide. There are a lot of choices and narrowing it down will be easier with the help of the store staff.
