    Lots of choices.

I use Clubman mixed with witch hazel. Some use just witch hazel, others..........the list is endless

I don't know about the Col. Conk stuff but as for the sting, generally if an aftershave contains alcohol it will sting to some degree.

Someone you might like to get to know is Colleen at [email protected]

She has many soaps, creams and seems to also have a small line of aftershaves. She sent me a sample once and it was fantastic. I actually prefer it over the Clubman (but I'm hooked on that old time barbershop smell). I think she does a Bay Rum too.

The fun here is just trying a variety of different products.

There are a lot of inexpensive after shaves that work well. Old Spice, Aqua Velva, Pinaud, Dominica Bay Rum, Colleen's -as mentioned. I think they are a matter of personal taste. Try a few and see what you like. If you get to Germany, look for some Speick a/s. You can order it online once you get back home too.

The Proraso pre/after shave cream is very good on the skin, strongly mentholated and neutral-smelling as a background for your favourite cologne/edt. I'm just not sure about its future availability as Proraso is phasing out some old products and introducing new junky stuff.

Does anyone know if good 'ol Noxema is similar in make up to Proraso pre/post? It looks, feels, and smells almost exactly the same.

Try some Aqua Velva (blue). I held out on that one for a long time (if it's that cheap, it can't be good, right?) but finally relented and really like it.

As a bonus, it smells quite similar to my favourite cologne, Dunhill For Men (the now discontinued 1934 cologne).

Key Ingredients: Proraso Water, Stearic Acid, Sorbitol, Glycerin, Camphor, Eucalyptus Leaf Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Menthol, Fragrance.

Key ingredients Noxzema Water, Stearic Acid, Linseed Oil, Soybean Oil, Fragrance, Ammonium Hydroxide, Camphor, Menthol, Eucalyptus Oil, Propylene Glycol, Gelatin, Calcium Hydroxide

    Pretty close

If Poraso donks out than it won't take much for Noxzema to move into the bubble and market a Noxzema pre-shave

well i remember when i was young my dad would take my brothers and i to the barber shop once a week (it was one of the father son things we did) and i will always remember the smell of the barber shop, that old smell. and that is the kind of smell i was looking for. and as for the burn, well i was always brought up it it doesnt burn its not working right, so i guess im looking for an alcohol base something (but preferably with some kind of moisturiser, it gets dry out here ya know)
