    Default My New Razor!

    Here is my new razor!!!!

I purchased it from Josh Earl and I can't wait to get my hands on it! It is a 4/8 full hollow grind, with nice bone scales and I got an incredible deal! Man I can't thanks everyone enough for their advice! Now all I need is a good beginner's strop and I think that I will go with one of Tony's Heirloom #1 3" wide strops in the honey brown leather! What should I know when I am ready for my first straight shave? Any tips, that would leave me without blood on my face would be appreciated!

    Warmest regards, Niksa

    It shaves real nice.

Tips? Take it slow. Read what you can here but don't take it as gospel; your own experience will be a valuable guide. And ask lots of questions BEFORE you try something unusual.

    Good luck,
    Josh

    congrats niksa!

i have been really enjoying shaving with a straight for a few weeks now. i have two razors from josh and they both shave very well. you did well by getting a blade from him. one thing that i have read here quite a bit is that newbies commenly suspect the razor isnt sharp enough because they are getting razor burn and the blade skips a bit. they try and hone the blade and in the proccess mess it up. i too on my first couple shaves thought the same but kept trying to improve my technique. after a few shaves i figured out i was hold the blade at too steep of an angle so i moved the spine closer to my skin and wow what a difference. now i am able to get my cheeks, chin and upper lip mostly bbs. my neck is still not quite there. i am playing around with stretching the skin in different ways and swapping hands. i have a long way to go! i am sure i will enjoy figuring it out in due time.
remember that it is okay to start with just a single pass on your cheeks and finish the rest with a de.

keep us post on how your shaves go. enjoy!

    cheers,
    ryan

Thanks for the info guys! I experienced the same thing with my first DE shave, a bit of irritation but that was due to me taking my time and not really getting great lather. My shaves have definitely improved, as has my lather and I also can't wait to give that razor a go!

    Warmest regards, Niksa
