Default Masconic Etched Straight Razor Blade

Hey everyone, so I am still new to the forum so any information on this straight razor will help. It is a S.C Wragg full wedge straight razor it has 25 under the name and Furnace Hill Sheffield as well. It has some Masconic etchings on the blade it does have a rust spot too. just trying to get information on when it was made and why they put the etchings on it. Was it made for a Freemason or just to the general public wouldn't make sense if it was a society if everyone can have there hands on one. Thank you for all the help here are some pictures as wellName: Masconic straight razor 1.jpg

    That rust spot looks deadly.

Yes, that was a Mason's blade, there are quite a few examples made by various makers and your's looks great.

The rust spot will hopefully sand right off using some high grit sandpaper, and won't interfere with the etching, but other than that, the etchings look nice and crisp, and if there is no England stamp on the tang, it is pre-1891, and I'd guess blade could be anywhere from 1840-60 range.

Some more shots of the etchings would be nice, the look different than the usual Mason's marks I've seen (actually from what I can seen have never seen marks like those), and of course, a little closer shot of the rust spot would help as well. Can you scrape some of the rust off just using your thumb nail?

Hopefully it's just surface rust, post some other pics if you can.....great find.
