Thanked: 0Newbie
alright here it goes.
i'm a newbie to this and have yet to aquire all of the necessary tools needed to shave and maintain a razor
though i'm slowly working on it.
i've been a custom knife maker for a little while and knife enthousiast my whole life
but by day i'm saleseman for the biggest food service supplier out there. so i need to be clean shaven daily
naturally i looked in to straight razors
so far i have
4 old straight razors left from my grandfather
1 double sided paddle strop (can this be used? is there a was i can stop grit contamination of he had used a compound on it way back when?)
a syringe of each 1 micron and .5 micron paste on oder (fastenal seems to have some good prices on this stuff $27 total cost to me, and its amplex brand diamond compound)
Badger Brush from my grandfather
Styptic
i'm hoping i can get into this soon, i know i'm going to need a norton combo stone or something equivalent, along with a hanging strop, some soap etc. but i figured i'd give a long winded post an introduce myself and what i'm working with for starters. and if its all i've heard its made out to be. then i'm going to be invest much more in the future.
thanks for listening
Mike

Welcome, Mike
Sounds to me like you know exactly where you are and where you're going.
I'll recommend Tony Miller for a strop and Colleen Hurley for soaps and creams. Lots of guys like Mama Bear's soaps too.
Welcome to the club!
