I really don't think I'll ever go back
I have no idea how long it will be before I can shave my whole face just with the grain, and not have to finish with my cartridge...
But I really like using a straight razor, and don't care how long it takes. On my second shave with this sharper razor, I'm in love with it. I was a little nervous after the first shave gave me a bite, but I guess those reminders do their job. Once I got going today I couldn't stop at the cheeks, so I got most of the chin too. Wanted to try mustache again, but had a bad feeling about it.
So glad I got the razor from rodb, and can't wait to try the other one coming tomorrow!Mark ~

Keep on keepin on.
It's okay to finish up with a cartridge until you get the hang of it. I did for a couple of months when I started. Good to hear you're enjoying the vintage razor.

Take your time. Enjoy the small successes, instead of rushing and making big mistakes.

All in good time. I think it took me 3 months before I said goodbye to cartridges and I never looked back. A good SE or DE is a good investment when time does not allow for a proper straight shave. Hang in there, shaving nirvana awaits you.

Looks like you're making great progress.
Not shaving the stache and knowing to stay in your comfort zone is key.
Watch a ton of video's and try to pick out strokes that will work for you, then try them out with a butter knife.
Soon you'll be shaving like an old pro.
As far as going back my prediction is that it's too late...you're a gonner!!

Thanked: 3795Patronizing comment here for you Mark,
If you have not done so, have a serious talk with your kids about the extreme danger of your razors to make it clear that they never should be even touched. Then of course, secure them in some way to make it impossible for them to do so.

Cleanup became less and less after the first month.
I don't remember when I stopped having to do a cleanup after every shave, but it was during the first 6 months.
Took me about 3 months to toss the cartridge and go back to a DE for cleanup. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

I will use a DE and do but never to "clean" up.
I have had a few comments about nicks but never the shave quality....

I actually only have the 4 year old here, but absolutely yes. She's my world, and I've talked to her several times about it, and keep them out of reach of temptation. If her Mother ever lets her 13 year old brother come over again, (Bad, long, story) I would be worried about him. I have a pretty good size safe though, and I"ve already made it into my new storage for these razors I'm getting ready to buy, that I can't afford. It's certainly easy to get in the safe real quick to grab a razor. It's making sure the other 45 minutes to shave are set aside that I have to get used to lol.
Yeah that could be such a tragedy if someone wasn't thinking it could happen to their family. But I'm pretty paranoid with my kids anyway. Got one who's 25, and I was the same way with her.Mark ~

I do feel like I'm getting sucked in. I'm already afraid to look at the classified's because I really can't afford anything, but I know what I'll do if I see another "deal" that I really like the looks of.
Problem for me is, good deals happen pretty often here. I thought it would be a while to get a better razor, and then I stumbled on to this place...Mark ~
