FIRST HONING!
I received today my 3 belgian coticule stones and was therefor able to sharpen and razor I bought a while ago that I had subsequently dulled.
In the meantime I used a loan razor from a very generous man by the name of Izlat that I cant thank enough for his kindness.
Okay, so my first hone you must be wondering how much did I wrecked my razor?!
Well, this is the anwser : NOT AT ALL!! infact, it's incredibly sharp again, just like when I received it from Alex 'LX_Emergency'. I have just had an amazing close BBS shave just now with no burn. I really cant believe my luck to be honest guys.
I watched Alex's honing vid and basically just copied everything he did and voila, my razor is super sharp.
The first time I finished with the hone about 2 hours ago, I stropped on the Linen and Leather but it tugged and pulled on my beard.
So I went back to the hone and this time used the Blue Coticule for a few passes then back to the yellow and afterwards stropped it about x60 passes. Again, it tugged and pulled but I noticed a huge difference.
I went back to the coticule for a third time and realised why it wasn't sharpening was due to the lack of slurry I had produced on my brand spanking new stone. So after rubbing it for a good few minutes, I created a fantastic slurry and repeated the whole process from start to finish.
The blade on my Solingen WUG is now incredibly sharp and I guess im just lucky to have picked up honing so quickly.
I just want to make a few shouts out ...
... firstly to Izlat for the lend of his Genco razor (which he is selling for anyone new who wants a fantastic Shave Ready razor in awesome condition)
and secondly to LX_Emergency aka Alex for his brilliantly informative honing video which you can catch on google video.
I've had an amazing night gents.
Shave safe :P
Graham.
