    Default Reliable honing service?

I purchased my first straight razor, a Boker Edelweiss, while I was in Germany. They said the razor would be shave ready. I waited until I arrived back home and stropped the razor about 40-50 times on each side of the blade and shaved only the lip area. I concluded that the blade was not sharp enough and I dont think I am ready to try honing my first razor.

I am looking for a legitimate and reliable honing service. I have found several online with inconsistent prices. From $10-$35. If someone could refer me to someone they have used with great results I would greatly appreciate the information.

Excellent razor choice! Boker factory edges in my experience are pretty suspect, so that's not at all surprising to me. I've never heard of them advertising as "shave ready" though...
I'm sure you'll get several good references here from people more familiar than me. Good luck

Thanks. I was up in the air on several choices between Boker and Dovo. Went with the Boker because I liked the way it looked and the dealer made a deal and included the Boker set with the Boker strop w/paste, stand, and a soap for an extra 80 euros.

Yeah, don't send it yet. There may be members not too far from you who offer this service. Saving on postage is always nice

Great choice. I just sold one to a member in Illinois. I had to shorten the blade due to a big chip at the point. I honed it and did a test shave. WOW! It was great. The buyer loved it too.

The one you sent me with the aluminum scales was really nice, edge wise too. I'm still quite the noob, but that one is my favorite to use right now.

Thanks. Information received. Stuck shaving with the Dovo Shavette and DE blades until I can get my blade back.

Thought you looked familiar. Hard to keep track of who I send razors to. Glad you liked the aluminum scales.
