Can I ask what the barbers notch is for?

Thanked: 3224Not to worry, it took me a while to find the library too. If you type in barbers notch in the search box upper right of the page, you'll find more than a few threads on the subject. General conclusion is the nobody really knows what it is for. Yea, asked that question too.

Thanked: 481If it doesn't have a functional purpose, then the next best guess would be aesthetics. Every facet of a tool doesn't have to have a purpose, sometimes things are just done because they look better that way.

IIRC rumor on barber's notches is it is for trimming around nostrils. At least that is 1 belief I've read.
Nothing is fool proof, to a sufficiently talented fool...
