Thanked: 0Totally new to s.r and looking for advice.
As the title suggests I'm totally new to using a straight razor.
Thank you for the add.
I'm new to the straight razor scene & looking at buying my first straight razor, I'm looking at buying a Dovo Solingen Cut Throat Straight Razor - Astrale Ebony Wood as my first razor. Any advice would be totally welcome.

Dovo is not a bad place to start if you want new. Just be sure its been honed by hand by a pro. Factory edges are not that great and for starting out you need a razor that is shave ready. Not a factory edge. You can buy from this site and you will know that its really shave ready. You will find a few older razors for a lots less money.
Welcome to SRP and be sure to change your info to show where your at. You might have a hone-miester down the road from you. And one on one is the best way to learn. Read what in our library for beginners and watch vids. Good luck and don't give up. It takes many shaves before it starts to click. It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 634Welcome. Give your location. Dovo is very good like said make sure it is shave ready. Also Ralph Aust is a very good razor. if you buy it from straight razor design it will definitely come shave ready.

Hello and welcome to SRP.
As others have said, add your location to your title.
For now, go to the forum's main page. On the left side there is a column titled "Helpful Links."
Scroll down and click on "Local Help." This might give you a starting point in finding someone close by that is willing to help.
A Dovo that is guaranteed shave ready is a pretty good place to start.
Have fun learning.

Welcome to SRP!
The Dovo Astrale is a nice razor once it is honed. I wouldn't recommend it for a first razor though. The reason is because your first razor will probably get abused, dropped, and ding while you learn. I would go with a Dovo best to start with because it is cheaper, or get one from the buy/sell/trade section of this website. Some people never go crazy.
