I mute the point on mine. Still has the look.
I trim as much with the heel of the blade as the point. I don't see as much discussion of a round or spiked heel....
I should have typed toe rather than point.....Last edited by 32t; 11-10-2017 at 10:43 PM.

Ive tried to get most every point option avalable. I like ha i g the options. As far as what difference it makes, id say none. I dont mute my points ether. I feel it keeps me on my game. Ive nicked my ears before and all but a round tip would have gotten me. But its a learning process. Have fun. Get 10 of each.
It's just Sharpening, right?

I have a Dubl Duck with a true spike, and I locked it in the safe in the back wrapped in Kevlar and chains around it. It's a blood thirsty vampire, Everything else is muted, not to where you can see it but they are and I like it that way. I tried being superman when I got a Max Sprecher, if you know his style they are evil on each end! But a little window sill and it's one of my favs. I haven't lost any blood in almost 3 years since I locked up the vampire and muted my Max. Tc

As others have already said, if you like the look of a square point then go for it! One can soften the toe ever so slightly to greatly reduce the likelihood of nicking yourself with the point while taking nothing away from the overall aesthetic or functionality of the blade.

Thanked: 14My first straight was rounded. My second one has a spanish point. I was nervous about it, but I really liked the look--I've yet to cut myself with the point (knock on wood). My third straight is a French tip and it's been the easiest razor for me to use.

Thanked: 292I have razors with nearly every point type (square, true spike, French, Irish, Spanish, barbers notch, and round). About the only point type I do not have is Turkish, which is similar to Spanish. My favorite is Spanish, with French being a close second. The only razor I have any issue with is a full 3" long square point. Because it is 1/4" longer than a standard length razor, I have to be really careful of the location of the tip. The square tip itself is not the issue.
