1st Timers Thanks and 1st Shave!
I want to go on record to say that I have really found a wonderful new home here! As a Newb and not knowing a thing about this world, I was very fortunate to have the privilege to have met Traveler, AKA Gary. Through email he took me under his wing so to speak and got me started down this road in good form! I can honestly say that having a "Shave Ready" razor as many of the members here keep making a point to tell the new folks, made all the difference in the world to getting off on a good foot and not having a bad experience. His advice as well as the many guides available here were the key for me.
I like many others started my 1st shave with a great deal of nervousness. The first shave for me was almost 45 mins in length. Though, no nicks or cuts, I tried a two pass shave and it left much to be desired but I had done it! got through it and on the second attempt it went much better, having reviewed the many videos on the net and more reading made it much easier. So, the second had much better results and as I got more under my belt it started becoming easier. Now, several shaves later I started the 3 pass shave and was very surprised , this is the shave I had been hoping for, close, smooth and still looking good at 5 or 6 in the evening. I notice that as each shave comes and goes, it gets much easier, knowing what to expect and how ones face responds to the razor being used, in my case a very nice Ek-Sel (NOS) that I purchased from Gary as my "Shave Ready" Starter.
Having real world experience and being able to have answers to my questions made all of the difference in the world and as I have already said, got me started the right way. My deepest and most sincere thanks to Gary and the others here that have taken the time to do the Newb writeups and the many guides.
In time , the real fun starts! Honing ! All in its own time!
Best Regards,
Stew

Bravo.
It gives you a sense of pride to be able to do it now doesn't it? As X said in a couple other posts in this section, if you are excited about how the shave feels now, just wait until you have the feeling of successfully honing your razor and getting that same feel again that you had from the shave ready blade another honmeister did.

Stew,
Welcome. It is a great feel isn't it!!! I love getting a great shave that lasts all day.
Let me just say one thing. When I feel I got it down is just when I nick myself....

Thanks
Apologies for not replying sooner, I have been somewhat under the weather the past several days and have not had much of a chance to be on the computer.
My Thanks to all the comments! and YES! .. the feel is something that is very hard to describe ....... I believe it was in the Movie Star trek Nemesis that the phrase, as smooth as an android's "Bottom" was used... well, as I have not had the distinct privilege of being able to make that comparison, It just seemed apropos in my case.
I have been sifting through all of the material here as well as elsewhere and have come to the conclusion that, if I don't keep it in check, my alloted monthly budget for "Shaving/Fountain Pens" will take on a more sinister life of its own.
All kidding aside, When I came to the straight shaving arena, I did so for many of the reasons posted here on the site, but have started to see the artistry involved in making and creating these razors. More than mere steel dragged across the skin, a fine piece of engineering and art that is carefully balanced in its design and manufacture.
I really appreciate the warm welcome you all have given me. It really speaks volumes of the caliber of the membership.

Duhhhh!
Yep! you are quite correct! .. I am guilty (Hanging my head ) .. something in the back of my mind was saying check it before you post it, but I didn't
Thanks for the correction ... I just got a kick of Data, shaking his head no in response to his feeling of Riker's shave .
