    Default Neck

I’m about 90 shaves in and thanks to the help I’ve gotten from many of you I’m finally making a great lather and rarely getting a nick or cut
I’d like to get a closer shave on my neck under my right jawline but I can’t seem to pull it off. Any thoughts?

I've had a hard time with my neck before as well, really map the direction and try shaving against it. (on my left side a N -> S strokes is actually an ATG pass, while on my right side a E -> W stroke is ATG)

Stretching also helped me a lot.
What I like to do and helped me relieve razor burn on my neck is tuck my chin into my body and pull the skin upwards that is usually on your neck / jawline and then shave against the grain that way.

It's a little hard to explain, but made it easier for me to shave that particular area, with this method if I get my head back up the only part of my neck that has not been shaven is the very lowest pat on my neck.

    That and a sharp blade

For me, there were a few things that really helped. The usually skin tight and low angle are paramount. The other item that is important for me, is my whiskers grow out laying really flat against my skin, particularly in that area. I make my first pass more or less against the grain, to get under those, and it makes a big difference on my neck. So for me I do my passes in the opposite order that most would do, particularly on my neck. It all started with me trying to figure out if I could get a fantastic shave with a single multidirectional pass. For the most part the answer is no, but it did get me to get quite close shave on my neck.

When I shave close to or at the jawline, I pull the skin up, on my cheek and open my jaw. After the pass down to the jawline, I find the lather still on my neck is way down below my jaw-line. Also when I go in an upward and inward (towards the nose) direction, I open the jaw again and it makes the area pretty flat. Pulling the skin up and it comes pretty close to BBS. Not perfect but better than I've ever got in the past.

I am struggling with the same spot! Let me know if you get it and what you did. Thanks for asking this question and thanks for the suggestions.

Kindof tough for me. I learned long ago to not press it. Bad results!
Rub the neck shortly after shaving. One direction.
That will tell you what your 2nd atg pass should/should have done.
    Not always possible!

You can nibble on it. Gave up on the BBS neck long ago. Issues galore are not worth it?

Ive been having some success using a scooping motion under my neck. I keep the bottom of the blade still and move the upper part in a semi circular motion. Try to stretch as much as possible. I do three passes and it helps but still doesn’t get me a bbs shave there

Seems you may be 'digging'. Scooping might mean using high angle scraping.
On the neck it just seems to make skin red and irritated, scratch lines, even a cut.
Worst is the ingrown hairs resultant. Let the neck alone. A little at a time?

I never use a high angle and and absolutely no pressure on the blade. I think I know better than that

For me, the two spots above the Adam’s apple centerline on either side are the two I have always struggled with. Hard to go upwards and inwards diagonally with a 3” wide straight while looking at the ceiling. I can do it, but it’s delicate work. I settle for going over those areas with a de or gem after my second pass. Narrow width works the treat.
Whatever tools work best for the task are the ones I use..
Always risk a rash or nick alternatively.
