Thread: Travel kit for razor.

Good afternoon guys, I travel every two weeks for work and I'm gone for two weeks at a time. in your opinion, what would be the best sharpening/ edge fixing combinations of stones and strop for the road? I want to put together the best maintenance kit for my razor that's light and does not take up much room in my luggage. Thanks.

I do three week shifts for work and if I take two razors that is usually fine for several shifts. I do sometimes bring razors that need honing and do that is I have any evening time. I drive to work and can bring the full progression. When I fly for long trips I pack my razors in a small pelican case, and again even if I am gone for long periods, I only bring the two razors. I use to bring a barber hone, Frictionite 00, but it never got used, so now I don’t bother.

I do bring my regular hanging strop.

If your razors are honed and shave ready, you shouldn't need a stone in your kit for a 2 week trip. With all the variables considered, a shave ready razor should be good for daily use for at least a month or two before it needs a touch up. Make sure your razor is absolutely dry before packing it up and drop of mineral oil or any light oil would be good protection on the road.

Speed up drying time for your brush/ razor, with a hair dryer, provided in most hotels. A strop takes up little space laying flat in a suit case. You didn't mention what kind of mug or scuttle you use.

2 razors properly honed( not the ones they just say are) a strop which is not that hard to pack. I travel and sometimes I'm out for a couple or 3 months. If you know how to shave right, and your stropping is good then no reason to need anything else. But if you must a barbers hone will take care of any touch up. Tc

When travelling I take a paddle more often than a strop because not sure to find a correct attachment for it. Get a bowl at the breakfast room. I even have a Mc Gyver solution if I find out that my paddle is forgotten at home.

I travel a lot for 2-3 weeks at a time and take 2 razors, a full size strop that stores nice on the sidewalk of a suitcase (keeps it flat and straight), synthetic brush (dry fast and face lathers easily) and I was bringing a man made coticule for touchups but I never use it so that will stop. Shave sticks and creams work great for face lathering as well. Oh one more thing a carabiner works great for attaching the strop just about anywhere in a hotel room Good Luck!

I'm hoping to make myself a wood travel case for one of my razors eventually. No telling how many years that will be! Basically a small paddle stropthat is hollowed with a lid to put the razor in. Maybe someone can post a pic.
