    Default First strop purchased.

Hi I'm looking some clarification with regards my new strop I've purchased. I bought the parker 3" wide latigo leather strop with fabric. It has arrived today and when I opened it there are a couple of small dents in the leather. Basically I would just like to know would this effect the stroping process or will it be fine to use. If i need to return it then I will.

How small are the dents and where are they positioned relative to the stropping area? Pictures would help us better respond to your concern.

Depressions in the leather are fine, but raised or wrinkled areas are not. For a new strop, I would not accept either type of damage unless the dents were tiny enough to not bother me down the road. You don't need any strop regret.

Hi thanks for your reply. The only way I could describe them is it's as if a small child has bitten the edge. I heated the leather up slightly with a hairdryer and they have improved. The picture attached is before I heated the leather.

Those really won't affect your stropping, so you must decide whether you can remain happy with them. Maybe ask the vendor for a small discount / refund to make up for the imperfection? Good luck, sir.

Nice call Mark. I agree competely.
It is a shame that the marks are there, but if you can live with them they are not going to make any difference/damage. If this was an expensive strop, and that depends on the owners opinion, then asking for a small refund is not a bad idea. If you dont feel the strop cost ya way too much to start with, than live with it. It looks like a nice piece of leather and should last you a long time even as it is.

It was expensive but I can live with it. I deliberatly got myself a good one as I know it will do me a very long time. I've emailed the vendor and sent them a picture. As long as it does it's job then I'm ok with it but as you said it is a shame as it kinda takes the look of it in my opinion.

expensive as in 300$? or expensive as in 100$?, if its the latter I wouldn't worry, 300 and up I might complain a little, but that damage is never going to affect your stropping and after you use it a few times it,ll have more marks than that on it. Tc

Well each individuals idea of expensive varies from person to person. What might seem expensive to one person might not be expensive to somebody else lol. Anyways it was £85gbp delivered... there was cheaper and there was more expensive ones to choose. I choose this specifically because it had good reviews and because it was latigo leather and also had the fabric. Like I says I'm happy to hold onto it. My only concern was that it wouldn't strop correctly. I'm now confident that it will.
