    Default Thinking of using SE

Hi there! I'm new here (as you can see), I'm 17 years old, and have been considering using SE's for a while now, but I need your thoughts on this...

I've always liked the shave that a straight edge gives, from what Ive seen on other people, and I have many problems with all other types of razors. I have a fairly square jaw, and no matter what I use (either Gillette Fusion, Mach 3, or my Philips 3-head electric) I can never manage a good close shave on my jaw and neck. I also always get a lot of irritation on my neck when using these, and it itches for the entire day, even after putting on lotion.

I was led to believe that after getting used to straight shaving technique, that these would not be a problem for me... Would it?

    Thanks very much!
    Marc

    Welcome Marc

Yes, I believe if you get your technique down, with a sufficiently sharp straight you can get a GREAT shave without irritation.

However, I am not sure you can be BBS (defined as no feeling rubbing fingers against the grain) every day. Seems some people just can't handle this very well... Maybe their skin just has not gotten used enough to the straights, or they aren't good enough in terms of technique...

I firmly believe the straight shave is the best

    Cheers
    Ivo

I could never use electrics on my neck without terrible irritation. I don't get any irritation from the straights as long as they are sharp and I take my time. Ivo is right though about BBS sometimes I will find I didn't get the neck the best but still better than a mock3.

+1 That is one of the best things about straights. I always had a couple of big red ingrown hair spots on my neck until I tried Straights. They are even better than DE shaving (though I always have to mention that Gem single edge safeties are a close second to Straights and are far better than DE razors for me (YMMV)). With Straights, my face feels and looks much much better and no nasty ingrowns .
    Good Luck and Welcome!

    Welcome!

Also, i had the same type of problem with the sides of my jugular. Both sides of the adam's apple were very irritated with my electric and mustache was terrible with the mach 3. Hope you have a great shave with this all when you finally dive in.
