Welcome to SRP.
As was said above. Shut and lock the door. This seems odd but think of it as safety. You dont need kids or the wife or pets bumping you in any way.
Be sure to start out with a pro honed razor like Roy stated. A second razor is best so that you can send one out and still be shaving and learning while you wait for one to come back.
Take your time. If it takes you 45 min or a hours dont sweat it. Its better to go slow and relather or make more lather than it is to trg and hurry. We dont shave this way for speed.
Learn to lather, shave and strop. After a few months time you can see about diving into the other parts of this odd hobby of ours.
Ask questions. Try to loom up answers with the search box but dont hesitate to ask. Remember we have all been there. Some of us its been decades ago. Others just a couple years. So we understand. We want you to get a close comfortable shave with little irritation. After you have mastered that then you can worry about getting that bbs shave.
Enjoy is the main thing! Its no longer a chore. Its time spent enjoying the shave. It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 0And just like that... I'm hooked. Turns out I'm a PJM/Monkhouse collector. Those are the ones I tend to look at the most. I already got this Wedgeway on its way to keep the Winova company.
Let's see what's next.
Thanks for all the advise and the warm welcome. I truly appreciate it and look forward to learning and eventually helping some one else down the line. Time to start looking for a honemeister (sp?) In the LA area.

Hope you can find someone to hone locally. Just keep in mind that some companys say that sharpen razors and what they mean is they can stick it in a machine and it sharpens them. Thats not honing. A lot of knife companys sharpen, thats also not honing. Find someone that hones by hand on stones.
But remember, you can mail a razor for a low cost to a member here to get a razor honed. Then you know it will be right. A few guys do this for a living and others dont mind helping someone out. It's just Sharpening, right?
