Marine epoxy for me too. Think ive done about 6 knots. Glad to have ya in the group, Tim. Remember that the depth you set the knot in the hole can change how well a knot works and feels. Post up some pics. IMO if you have a knot that is 26mm dia. I would set the loft at 48 to 50mm. But this is something that is best if you can test it before glueing. This is why a somewhat tight fit is best.

I think the general advice is to have a hole diameter about 1mm to 2mm larger than the knot diameter. The knot size/diameter is measured at the base of the glue plug/bottom of the knot.

I do not use the metal cups - are you using the shave brushes https://www.mistershaver.com/best-shaving-brush/ from PSI to fit into those cups? Funny that they wouldn't just fit perfect.... I buy my shave brushes from Berea Hardwoods - not sure if the quality is the same as the nicer ones that PSI offers, but they are a hell of a lot cheaper and I have been using one for quite some time - not very may bristles fall out (some just because they aren't ALL glued solid into the epoxy plug or they break at some point - this is to be expected.)

I drilled a 3/4" hole into the handle and then sand the heck out of the inside of the hole by hand because the plug is just a little too larger to fit just right - once I dry fit the plug (and you want the bristles to be set in ever so slightly into the hole - I think it looks best this way) - I start to turn the handle.

This works well for me.... no back to your question regarding the cup and glue.... man - that's real odd that it is so loose that you would have enough glue showing you would need to dye it.... regarding the E6000 - my mom and a friend of hers use that stuff to make "yard art" out of recycled glass pieces....the stuff sits in the sun ALL SUMMER and the heat and sun do not mess the glue up at all - it is STRONG stuff!

I just epoxy the plug into the handle.

Good luck - can't wait to see pictures!

I had to reset the knot in a brush that came apart. I used Original Gorilla Glue. It is a water activated polyurethane that bonds nearly anything and is waterproof. Since it is water activated, you do not have to worry about the parts being dry before bonding; in fact, you moisten the items being bonded to activate the adhesive. That is a lot simpler than using a two part epoxy.
