Hi all, I'm Tim from Duluth.
I'm working on a shaving brush and was wondering what you guys who make shaving brushes use to glue the badger hair knot into the metal cup (if you use the cups). The fit seems really loose and I'm not sure what would work best to fill the cup and glue the knot into place and it seems like I'm gonna want to dye the glue too because it sure is going to show.

So, what do you all use? I just got some industrial type glue that is supposed to be really good that is called E6000. Anyone ever use it? It seems like some really strong glue on what I've used it for so far. I got it from Hobby Lobby and it was recommended to me by another vendor who makes stuff with metal and glass and she said that stuff really holds well. I have not tried dying it yet, but I think it would work.

I am sure one of the members with more experience will be along with some answers for you. All I can say is that for the very few knots I have installed I have used a 2 part epoxy glue for the job.

If you can post photos of the handle and the knot you want to install that might help too.

Welcome to the forum. I'm up in Suwanee about 10min from Duluth.
I know one member uses GOOP. I would think any water resistant epoxy should do the job, but I haven't done any brush work.

I have used Marine Epoxy. It fills any voids. Is waterproof and super strong. Sets quickly and cures overnight.

Glad ta have ya, Tim. Sounds like you've got the wrong diameter knot, for the handle. You may be able to sleeve it in some way, but as said, check in the brush makers alcove. If ya don't find your answer there, then post your question there, someone will be glad to help.

One of the guys might even trade ya knots, so you have the right size. Were here ta help.

I use Marine Epoxy also. Are you sure you have a large enough knot? I've only replaced three knots but the knots I used have been large enough to not leave room for exposed epoxy.

Hi Tim and welcome to SRP.

I have used Marine Epoxy in the past. It's super strong.
The problem is if you ever want to remove the knot. It's so strong that it makes it nearly impossible. I have broken a couple of brush handles using this.
I have since switched to Goop. It holds the knot in place and releases it with no problem when the time comes.

Welcome, Tim. That glue is like Goop. I use it on all my brushes. Works fine.
Post your brush/knot down in the Brushes subforum or in the brushmaker's alcove below.

Some measurements will be beneficial to help you get it set properly.
Depth of the hole is as important as diameter!

I've only set one knot so there is that. But on the up side I used the E6000 that you mentioned and so far that would be my choice for another knot.
