Don't forget the great deals going on in the Movember thread. Sharpton has some good deals going cheap, and their always top notch items.

Congratulations Steve. You have now jumped down the rabbit hole. A barbers hone is a great tool to maintain and refresh a blade that otherwise honed properly but is too fine to set a bevel or make a keen edge from scratch. It is more for finishing. The other side is probably 2k-4k as a guess while the fine side is likely 6k-7k, maybe 8k but probably not that.fine. Before you know it you will be ready to start with a dull blade and bring it to shave ready. Once you get to that point I would suggest a synthetic water stone set like this one.

Norton is very affordable and gives good results. I have been totally satisfied with the set I have. I have some razors for you to play around with once you get to that point. PM me your address and I will go ahead and send them to you. These are ones that can be shaved with but are no big loss if you scratch or mar them so you can play around without being too apprehensive.
I would also maybe try out what you have (your new 2 sided barber hone) with them (razors I'll send you) using the pyramid progression. It may be a little short but you should be able to.manage it. My advise is to set the stone on the counter on a rubber jar lid remover pad or something to keep it from sliding instead of holding it in your palm for this method though. Be advised though you will want to tape the edge.when you do that progression since that many laps is too much on the spine without it with anything you care about. I tape everything I hone regardless unless.i am trying to correct an uneven spine or even out hone wear.

Man, are you waist deep now. Good for you though. I'm happy for you. You have made.good progress.

Here's a link to the pyramid progression. I would suggest printing it out to follow because it is a lot of steps to do from memory at first.
